Rogue Traders Scams And Suspicious Activity

Alert message sent 06/09/2020 11:56:00

Information sent on behalf of Devon and Cornwall Police

There have been several reports to West Devon Police concerning suspicious activity, this is mainly through door to door callers offering to carry out works to properties including cutting hedges, laying drives, roofing work and offering green energy works.

These individuals often turn up in a village and put out flyers and business cards promoting their trades.

Our advice is only to employ tradesmen that are happy to provide you with a list of satisfied customers in the area and are happy for you to check their work.

Always get more than one quote for any works you are undertaking

Ensure if they are doing work for other agencies such as EPC work for the council, you check their id but also check with the council.

If more than one person attends your home, ensure they both remain where you can see them. All too often one will distract you whilst the other checks out your garden and any outbuildings.

There has been a rise in thefts and burglaries to outbuildings and homes, theft of Dogs, and also theft of machinery throughout West Devon and surrounding areas if you see anything suspicious please call or e-mail us on 101 or if it appears somebody is committing a crime 999
