Focusing on burglary prevention this winter
Operation Dragnet  17th November 2017
The increase in burglary across the county, especially in the north, is proof enough that we need to drive the security message home and get residents to make a change. Research shows that people are aware of crime prevention messages and know what they should be doing but often they don't make a change as they don't think it will happen to them.
Our current focus is getting people to think about the different types of burglary and how at risk they might be and what they need to do to reduce the risk.
What's happening:
• Radio interviews with Det Supt Pete Fulton
• Promote burglary prevention messages on social media
• Issuing a series of 30 second videos around home security via social media
• Prompting people to register their valuables on Immobilise
• Supporting neighbourhoods with leaflets for door dropping streets affected by burglary
• Highlighting successful burglary arrests/court results
• Supporting ‘Operation Dragnet’, the Forcewide Proactive Day of Action on 17 November
• Issuing Christmas security advice around leaving expensive presents on display
What else are we doing:-
Our social media campaign also aims to work with Surrey residents to urge them to report any suspicious activity that they see that could link to a burglary, as well as registering their belongings on Immobilise.com to improve their chances of it being returned if stolen. This is something we can all do so please have a look at the immobilise website and get registering!
Whilst mentioning burglary prevention, another very good way of deterring burglary is to set up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme.
